JUNE 24TH

June 23rd....the end of it I was starting to feel not so great. THEN NELIE BROUGHT ME A DRUMSTICK ICE CREAM BAR!!

Ah..life was so much better. Went home and had a dream about being on the "Bachelor." Wooohooo.

<<-----the guys watching schauer's new video....

Today I got to wear my new shirt from Ann Taylor and got the nails done for my interview with the Blanche Lincoln NWA campaign. Brought a couple pacers in to the news room this afternoon, need to do a better job of bringing in story ideas.

Going out for the Rogers Fire heat story....watch for tonight at 9 and 10!

The weekend! And the last couple days of my internship.

I forgot to tell you last Thursday, I finally put my butt down in an edit bay and put together a package. Well, rearranged Chelsea's package she put together weeks ago and I rewrote it. Pretty stinkin' proud of myself, thank ya thank ya.

Sammy came in for the weekend. Molly Kaminski's wedding...it was beautiful! I caught the bouquet. Well, I DID catch it thennnn these little girls took it from me! Needless to say Molly won't get to keep her flowers for forever.

Tuesday the 22nd. I researched a lot on the affair between a newsroom and lemon bars. They were gone before the news even started. I was late today because the lemon bars took an hour instead of the time it said on the recipe. But, that is my fault because I have serious issues with my oven sometimes. Anyways, helped Jay produce a little since he had all four shows to do on his own! I even gave out time cue's for the 10 pm news. I felt like a pretty cool kid.

Today, Wednesday the 23rd. Went out with Chelsea and watched her log everything in the car. She truly did the whole pack in the car! What a BAD A! (Excuse me, pardon my language). Hopefully tomorrow some more news will come this way......all the way to NWA! :) WOOOHOO.

Summer school starts next week. ehhhhhhh not too excited.

June 15th, 16th, 17th....

Tuesday 15: Learned a ton about producing. Thank you Lisa B! Ran over to city council before the 6 o'clock news to find out what the deal was with the Fayetteville Business Licensing. Talked with Mrs. Shirley Lucas, such a sweetheart. I really do enjoy the "story telling" aspect of journalism. Getting to know people, too, helps. I got to actually look into the producing part of the job and I loved it. So thankful for people here in this station.

Tuesday 16: Wrote some pacers! (Readers, if you will) and had Schauer look over them and edit them for the news! They were actually used in the newscast! Talked with some not so nice school officials, but maybe (not maybe, this is just an actuality, a reality) I am just sensitive. True fact. Went out with Marci on a Springdale story. She was so very patient with me. She truly took the time to answer all my questions, went through all of the important info for a reporter to do in an interview. I have three pages of notes front and back from my day out on the field with her. I even got to do a stand up, a bridge and also got to do my own interview!

Wednesday 17: Went out with Chelsea today. Covering just how dang hot it is outside. Which, by the way, if you aren't out in this heat, don't change a thing! It's swealtering! And, if you know me, you know I really don't sweat. I was dripping beads of sweat. Glistening, right?

Craving a snow cone, right about now. Gotta get my stuff together for father's day. always procrastinating.

I've gone country....and the internship.

may and june 2010

i love my friends!
http://luscombefarm.com/ where I was Wednesday- Sunday. SO HARD TO LEAVE!

I worked Monday 6/7 and Tuesday 6/8 of last week. Monday we went to the Razorback game with C and covered all the attention coming to NWA for the hogs. We were out at the ballpark alllll day (as in 3-10:30). Here's the best part of that day. Well, actually there are about a hundred good parts of that day but...
1. I got to shoot a stand up. I teased the baseball game and just ad libbed, which was fun but also kinda scary! I watched C and Sean edit all day for the package at 10, a VO SOT at 6 and a stand up VO at 5. Mosquitoes were in full force at the game...got the proof, still.

2. After the news, there was a break between 6:30-9(10). I talked with the other intern who is in the sports department. (She thought I had never been to a baseball game before, which, I can't blame her; I'm more about talking to the people around me at a game than actually watching the game..whoops.) When I sat down to talk I guess I took the seat of one of the gentlemen next to me. I just was trying to be nice (and a little sarcastic) when I asked if the chair was one of the guys', then I just started conversations. I FORGOT THE DRAFT WAS GOING ON THAT NIGHT. And, of course, there were MLB scouts there for all the big wig Razorbacks getting drafted. Oh, wait. I WAS TALKING WITH THREE OF THEM. I had NOOOO idea these guys were the bee's knees. We had lots of mutual friends but I felt like a total nerd after I said a handful of comments listed below:

"I would never let my son leave his college education to play MLB."
"How can you let a 17 year-old leave high school early for a baseball career."
"This is why American is so uneducated..."
...and this is why I should keep my mouth shut. They were really nice, though. Scouts for the New York Mets, Blue Jays and the White Sox. By the way, they all had HUGE championship rings.

Tuesday June 8th. Elections.....
I begged and pleaded to my mom to let me stay in Fayetteville until 11 pm and drive back to Tulsa at 6:30 a.m. See, I had a plane to catch Wednesday morning. To see a boy I just adore. In TEXASSSSS. Anyways, I worked the election phone lines. I called Benton County at least six times to see if they had all their precints in. I went out to Benton County for Steve Womack's election party and that was exciting and I went back to the station for the election chaos. Hoyt Purvis, actually professor Purvis, was the co host of Fox 24 that night. He somewhat remembered me. Yay!

I don't think I can explain Texas without pictures. Therefore, I am going to update when I return home. Oh, yes. We got internet and cable and DVR. I bet my roommates are making margaritas right. now. But, I'm in the news room so I'm in my haven.

First Three days of the Internship!!!

http://wandascakegallery.com/about.html Wandas cakes in Tulsa! Buy local and then go next store for "Little Black Dress" for some cute apparel!

Internship:
Started June 1: 1:30-10:30 pm. A Blast. Nervous to say the least. I walked in around 1:15 and thought, "Oh, hell. Am I late already to my first day?" But no, the meeting didn't start until 1:30. I brought cookies and brownines since my I figure that is the only way to peoples hearts. I pitched an idea at the meeting about this stupid text I got asking me to call about a $100 voucher, free! Our FOX took it on and called the company on live TV! It was awesome. Reporter C let me watch her film her promo and then we went to the city council meeting....for about 2 hours. Interesting, but glad it's not an everyday beat. Learned what a stinger is...the big graphic and music breaking up each piece of the news segments. I really like staff here. Each person is so welcoming and I as an intern really appreciate that. Neelie talked OU/OSU bedlam with me...she graduated from OU J school and is from Tulsa. SOOO nice to have an Okie in the newsroom with me!

June 2 9:30-5:30 Morning meeting was cool with Aniseh. Two other interns came in and I'm not gonna lie I felt a little small! One of 'em took the reporter I wanted to go out on the field with! I even said in the meeting, "Hey, I'll go with you and show you where I think these people to interview would be." Guess you gotta be bold in this business. I learned what a pacer is....it's where there is no anchor or reporter showing and video is on screen. I watched Liz Hogan edit and then put together her VOSOT then PKG. They use AVID here to edit. In our 1:30 meeting we talked about how UA students are NOT the demographic we are looking to target. Wal Mart shareholders are in town. Lord, the parking is insane. Jay, the FOX producer introduced himself to me about four times. He says he's confused because I keep changing clothes, which I would hope I do after a days work.

June 3 1:30-10:30 Today has been the BEST day. I made hamburger helper this morning so Kat could have it for lunch and I could eat it for dinner here at the station. I'm learning that eating out is actually eating at my wallet and my waistline. Went out on a marijuana bust! Well, clarification. The bust already occurred but we went out to get neighbors reactions and to see the weed. What we got was a five-year-old telling us his stepdad was mean. This little boy was the step son of the marijuana man. Since no one in the neighborhood spoke english, we opted to get back in the truck and head for some more sound bites. But, just as we are pulling out the man arrested on marijuana charges PULLS UP! Along with his quite classy wife. He 1st. Yelled at us and said he already had said what he needed to say. 2nd. Realized we were the good guys and said he wanted to show us his side of the story. His garden was beautiful! He had watermelon, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, pumpkins. It was awesome (aside from the fact that this guys defense was he thought the marijuana plants were actually tomatoe plants, I believed he was innocence for a while). I found out what channels do Fort Smith news and what channels actually stick to JUST Northwest Arkansas. I found out what an actual "budded SOT" is. A SOT is SOUND ON TAPE, and budded is just two or more sots together. Kind of like getting certain peoples reactions on things and slamming 'em all together. Talked with Shouers today about what I actually want to do in this business. That was scary.

About to edit a package for my reel...wish me good luck! To say the least...I AM PUMPED ABOUT LIFE :)
