I've gone country....and the internship.

may and june 2010

i love my friends!
http://luscombefarm.com/ where I was Wednesday- Sunday. SO HARD TO LEAVE!

I worked Monday 6/7 and Tuesday 6/8 of last week. Monday we went to the Razorback game with C and covered all the attention coming to NWA for the hogs. We were out at the ballpark alllll day (as in 3-10:30). Here's the best part of that day. Well, actually there are about a hundred good parts of that day but...
1. I got to shoot a stand up. I teased the baseball game and just ad libbed, which was fun but also kinda scary! I watched C and Sean edit all day for the package at 10, a VO SOT at 6 and a stand up VO at 5. Mosquitoes were in full force at the game...got the proof, still.

2. After the news, there was a break between 6:30-9(10). I talked with the other intern who is in the sports department. (She thought I had never been to a baseball game before, which, I can't blame her; I'm more about talking to the people around me at a game than actually watching the game..whoops.) When I sat down to talk I guess I took the seat of one of the gentlemen next to me. I just was trying to be nice (and a little sarcastic) when I asked if the chair was one of the guys', then I just started conversations. I FORGOT THE DRAFT WAS GOING ON THAT NIGHT. And, of course, there were MLB scouts there for all the big wig Razorbacks getting drafted. Oh, wait. I WAS TALKING WITH THREE OF THEM. I had NOOOO idea these guys were the bee's knees. We had lots of mutual friends but I felt like a total nerd after I said a handful of comments listed below:

"I would never let my son leave his college education to play MLB."
"How can you let a 17 year-old leave high school early for a baseball career."
"This is why American is so uneducated..."
...and this is why I should keep my mouth shut. They were really nice, though. Scouts for the New York Mets, Blue Jays and the White Sox. By the way, they all had HUGE championship rings.

Tuesday June 8th. Elections.....
I begged and pleaded to my mom to let me stay in Fayetteville until 11 pm and drive back to Tulsa at 6:30 a.m. See, I had a plane to catch Wednesday morning. To see a boy I just adore. In TEXASSSSS. Anyways, I worked the election phone lines. I called Benton County at least six times to see if they had all their precints in. I went out to Benton County for Steve Womack's election party and that was exciting and I went back to the station for the election chaos. Hoyt Purvis, actually professor Purvis, was the co host of Fox 24 that night. He somewhat remembered me. Yay!

I don't think I can explain Texas without pictures. Therefore, I am going to update when I return home. Oh, yes. We got internet and cable and DVR. I bet my roommates are making margaritas right. now. But, I'm in the news room so I'm in my haven.
